Agriculture

Agriculture is the mainstay of Borno State’s economy as it contributes more than 60% of GDP and provides livelihood for close to 90% of the state`s population. The sector is robust and fast growing. Recent interventions of government are helping the state to move from subsistence to commercial farming. Investors are therefore welcome to tap into the agricultural investment revolution sweeping across the state.

Mining

Borno State is blessed with abundant mineral resources ready for exploration and exploitation. It is endowed with a variety of solid mineral deposits capable of feeding medium to large scale industries for optimum industrial operations. Previous work conducted by the Borno State Mineral Resources Development Agency and Borno State Investment and Property Development Company Limited revealed the existence of various solid mineral deposits which when effectively harnessed would improve the economic status of the state and its people in general. These deposits include among others:

  • Soda Ash (Trona)
  • Kaolin
  • Granite for Dimension Stones

Light Manufacturing

Despite its huge energy resources, Nigeria needs more electricity both to drive industry and to ensure adequate supplies in rural areas. The National Energy Master plan projects that energy from renewable sources will reach 20% of Nigeria’s energy mix by 2030. Borno State has one of the highest irradiation levels in Nigeria and a wide range of bioproducts to help grow your renewable energy business.

BOSIPA is currently working with five different firms for the delivery of independent solar power plants in Borno State. When actualized, the five projects will deliver an estimated output of about 1300 MW solar power at an estimated cost of US$2 billion. Efforts are also being made to expand transmission capabilities of the state to give room for more investors to establish solar power plants for distribution of power to the national grid
